After New Years Eve: Celebrate January 2 as Introvert Day

December 28, 2014 by Patricia Weber

Happy Introvert Day started in 2008 with an article entitled the same.

Then, National Introvert Day came on the scene January 2 2011. It’s a perfect place to be on the calendar with all the happenings of the winter holiday season. Either way, this introvert holiday is still in its infancy, as might be a global understanding of what it means to be someone more introverted.

if you’re up for another holiday, one that’s more quiet, then …

After New Years Eve: Celebrate January 2 as Introvert Day

What’s your perfect idea of celebrating Introvert Day? Oh I bet I know! It’s likely going to be a relaxed, quiet, alone and recharging kind of day.

We’ll each be different in the specific since few of us are totally introverted or extroverted. The key is to use this day after all of the holiday season to honor who you are, not what you think the rest of the world might expect of you. We already do enough of that through most of the year.

What about getting ready for the New Year with those resolutions? If you make them. That’s going to take some mental energy. Physical or mental energy is something we more introverted cherish.

How about taking your introverted self to new heights in 2015? One of my connections on LinkedIn told me he was looking forward to doing just that!

Or maybe you just want to take time to appreciate yourself as you are.

Whether you plan a day alone, partially alone or for the more extroverted, with others, National Introvert Day will be a day to expand your awareness of just what energizes you.

Figure out how you want to celebrate this day. Here’s a few ideas to kick things off and please, like an idea, comment or add your own way to celebrate to the list:

I never knew there was a National Introvert Day. I think I need one of those at least once a week. LOL Sometimes I take a walk. Sometimes I retreat to my office upstairs. It all depends on the day.

I like THAT idea – a once a week Introvert Day! I’m in. Let me know if you find it online Cheryl.

Pat — I’m not even an introvert and I’m taking a day of rest on Jan. 2nd. I had a particularly busy — but fun filled — holiday season and I’m tired! Good idea.

It really is a good idea for anyone for sure Jeannette. Even my wide open extrovert husband kind of lays low that day.

Hi Patricia, I think even those people who don’t particularly consider themselves introverts could use some quiet and alone time after the hub-bub of the holidays and will find this helpful. Hope you open the garage door before sitting in the idling car or you may end up way more relaxed than you mean to be. 🙂

Thanks for catching what I left out Susan. I was thinking about it and thought I wrote that the garage door goes up! You’re funny.

LOVE the idea of National Introvert Day. For me, practically any Sunday qualifies!! I do think that most folks need a day after the holiday hub-bub so maybe January 2 is “Everybody Is An Introvert Day” Laugh! I’ll probably do a combination of all those things…. and catch up on my reading!

Jacqueline, I introvert a lot on Saturdays and Sundays. Getting a extra day in a week to do so, hooray!

Honestly didn’t know there was an introvert day. Went shopping on January 2nd and bought some new clothes that I like. Not sure that was introvert:-)

Well Catarina, if you shopped online it would be more introverting! But we know you’re more extroverted. 🙂

Number 1,5 and 6 definately speak to me and I can have my Introvert day any day with those, although in general I am not, but I will be just to have those and in that kind of setting as your picture. beautiful.

There are so many National Day’s and I wish I would have know about this one when it first started. I spent the day to myself and I was called anti-social by several people. I’m not anti-social I just didn’t want to hang out. It felt good to be alone and actually enjoy my day. I have said this before Patricia but you site has put a lot of things in perspective for me and I truly appreciate it.

How disheartening to be called, anti-social. I get this Niekka. I still have to ask some of my friends, “Maybe you don’t know I’m more introverted and what that means?” You should see the lightbulbs go on! Now you know about January 2nd for next year.

Pat — I’m an extrovert and wish I could take the rest of January off.. 2nd. This time of year is my busy time because of all the new products. I don’t even introverts that are in my business have time to rest.
