What gets people’s interest? I’ve been reading Sally Hogshead’s book “Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation” and it has been very enlightening. What gets (and keeps) people’s attention is fascination.
Sally walks through 7 forms of fascination that intrigue individuals for one reason or another. One of the 7 is mystique. Typically, mystique is formed when something is withheld. It’s the anticipation, the wonder or curiosity that drives humans positively nuts and gives them tunnel vision when it comes to finding the missing piece of the puzzle. Let me give you some examples from Sally’s book.

Patricia — even though I’m a raging extrovert, I often wonder if there is an introvert hidden inside me somewhere. I find that the rock-and-roll dancing at weddings is a total energy drain, not even counting the pounding on my eardrums. My nieces and nephews want to drag me out on to the dance floor but all I want to do is go home.

You hit the nail on the head when you said about being drained by being surrounded by others. This is me, and it has caused many relationships to dissolve because of it. I have dated social butterflies, and there is a conflict adjustment you have to make. Eventually it was this difference between us which caused the breakup.

I particularly liked this: “Emotional intelligence has no bearing on whether one is more or less introverted, and instead relies on five great abilities: selfknowledge, self-control, motivation, empathy, and social skills.:” I like it because here, the introvert more likely has at their easy disposal the first four and only needs to strenghten one!
