Commun.it: Fun Tool to Improve Online Twitter Conversations and Networking

August 1, 2012 by Patricia Weber

Many people online want to find the most meaningful relationships through engaging people in conversation. Bare bones, Twitter is at the top of driving awareness to start relationships. But what if you want to both find people who have interest in the same things you do, and you want to move the conversation along? Can you filter through dozens, maybe hundreds of tweets to do this easily? Do you have time to use single tools that handle each task like – managing relationships, or finding hashtag conversations?

Along comes commun.it to help you do just that.

Here’s a glimpse of the helpfulness of four areas in a new tool that can almost do it all:

Build Relationships.

Commun.it lets you quickly identify your core community of high-value members. This would be people who support you with things like RTs (retweets), mentions, or engage in communicating with you via REPLYing. To top it off, as you are finding out who those people are, Commun.it makes it easy for you to acknowledge them easily. You both see who they are and a Tweet box appears with an appropriate message all ready to go for you to send if you like. I usually modify mine just a wee bit because, well, I’m just that way. You’ll see relationships further divided into most engaged, supporters and influencers.

Manage relationships.

All in one place you can also scroll down a bit and see their recommendations for who to follow and who to unfollow! Of course you aren’t forced to follow the findings but really ask yourself, why are you on Twitter and how’s that working for you? It seems based on who those high-value members are so the to need to guess or be subjective is minimized. Plus, you are more assured that with their engagement level and influence, they’re worth the follow.

Monitor engagement.

Maybe you are interested in everything introvert, like I am! You can enter the term of interest and then get a list of people who are engaging in discussions about those very terms. Hashtag words are effective here.

Discover new leads.

With keywords that people use in their profile Commun.it finds helps you discover people who likely have similar interests. This gives you the advantage of starting a conversation on a familiar level rather just shouting “Hello,” in a room.

One of my favorite features of https://commun.it/ is that once a week I get an email summarizing statistics and identification of those high-value members. There’s little need to find other tools with this one easy place to find valuable relationships, manage them and be able to easily appreciate those who you value most.

Did I mention all this is free? There is a paid version – you get more detailed activity reports, for longer period of times, more key words to monitor and other features. Right now I’m on for free but that paid is tempting. But in the mean time, if you Tweet, why are you still here? Get over and give it a try!

I joined two weeks ago. It’s amazing that it just compartmentalizes everything so neatly… instead of sitting trying to work it out and remembering lol
It’s weekly too so there’s no daily overload 🙂

Thanks Claire! Come back and tell us how it’s working for you?

Great Katarina! I’ve used the words like, #blogger, #networker, #coach to find people to connect further with. I THINK you can use with or without hashtag.

Thanks for the reminder Patricia. I signed up for this last November and promptly forgot about it. Now, I can’t logon. (I’m getting an error message that my Twitter ID is already associated with my email address.)

Is it just me? I swear I run into more bizarre techie situations than the average user! I guess it keeps tech support on their toes. 🙂

Sherryl, on Twitter look for @SharelOmer or @MikePolis or @commun_it to get some help with that issue. I have every bit of confidence they’ll solve the issue quickly.

Just joined. Now they are doing the following:

We are now analyzing your community to better understand:
Your high-value members (influencers, supporters, engaged members)
    Engagement with your monitored items
Relevant leads to connect with, based on your interests

Let’s see what they come up with.

Yes they are genuinely interested in creating engagement among people. I’m watching!

Thanks so much for the tips on Commun.It. We’ve been trying to use Twitter to find folks interested in baby boomer issues. This should make it easier.
