Just recently, Susan Boyle sang, “I Dreamed a Dream” on British reality show Britain’s Got Talent. Not opening many emails that say, “You Must Watch This,” in the subject, I copied the link from my friends, and was immediately, before she opened her mouth, cheering for her. If you’re introvert or shy maybe you can relate to what this can mean for you.
Unassuming. When Boyle came onto the stage she looked like an everyday person, not some over made up, over done celebrity. Being modest is appreciated in some situations but onstage? I saw confidence in her stride and I started cheering for her before she opened her mouth. Boyle has a gift. Her voice. The judges had to have known this only because people audition for these shows. Irregardless, modesty sometimes hides our gifts so don’t let it upstage who you are.
Dreamer. Who are better dreamers than introverts? No telling how many years Boyle dreamed of “performing in front of a large audience.” What is your dream? You know it’s in your head. You’ve probably heard people say, “He/she is such a dreamer.” Keep on with it. Keep doing the things that move you closer to it. Keep thinking about that dream.
Stumble a little. Even though she stumbled in answering one of the questions of one judge, she maintained her poise and if you watch the video carefully, you can see her composure actually strengthen. So next time you say, “Pass” in a brainstorming session at work or on some kind of committee, remember it’s okay. Passing, stumbling, doesn’t mean we can’t have our confidence carry us to the success line we have in mind.
I don’t watch reality shows. From just one time of watching one show I would say that Susan Boyle has put a better face on reality shows. Am I wrong or have they gotten better and I just am unaware?
If you haven’t seen the video, WATCH it!
Susan Boyle – Singer – Britains Got Talent 2009
Whether you are an introvert or shy, Susan Boyle has opened up new possibilities: being unassuming, a dreamer, someone wiling to stumble – can lead to your dreams. I hope that Susan doesn’t change – only that she continues to inspire others by being just who she is.

I actually cried when she sang! Her video has now been viewed over 28 million times and she is on her way to fulfilling her dream with talks of record deals, etc.
I read more about her in a press article. She has been singing in her parish church for YEARS. Another note for us introverts: Even if you haven’t broken through to mass attention, keep doing what you love in your own little “village” until your opportunity strikes!
Even if it takes 47 years to show up.
By her example, Susan Boyles shows us it’s worth the wait.

This was super encouraging, Pat. I don’t go for reality TV either, but this was a joy to listen to.
