Go-Giver Law of Value: Price is Not Value

November 23, 2009 by Patricia Weber

What is the Go-Giver Law of Value? This is my second to last blog post in completing the lessons of The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann. The Law of Value is Law #1 and reads:

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

Recently, I had to file an insurance claim and because of a computer glitch caused by an input error of an administrative person 4 years ago, my claim was prevented from moving forward. As a client of this insurance company for 30 years, always paying on time, usually in full for the year, this was not the service I expected. It took 2 days of several lengthy telephone calls to finally have someone hear my message, sadly to say with an idle promise that even though I was with them for 30 years, I could take my business elsewhere. Since it was the third representative in three days when I received a telephone call within 90 minutes, instead of the once again declared time to resolution being “48 hours,” I felt relief, but not so much value.

In the end things worked out, taking three days instead of just one telephone call. I do think that I would feel more value if starting with any of the multiple encounters that 1) no computer glitch was mentioned, 2) I wasn’t put in the middle of the carrier’s computer problem and 3) someone decided to stand up for me besides me, to just move the process forward noting in the records to IT department, managers, all stakeholders within the company, what computer glitch was found and needed to be fixed.

You can read the first chapter of the book for free. Then go beyond that with one of two actions:

One, read the complete book which you can buy through Amazon or possibly find at your library:

And then, two download The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success from the Go-Giver website. It could be just what you need to help you and your business results!

The Law of Value to me is more about giving more than you are getting. Certainly pause for me to think about as well. How about you? What do you think about this law of value? I’d love to hear from you.
