My previous blog post summarized my top take-aways from a research report and presentation by Martin Sussman, an internationally known expert in holistic vision care, and founder of the Cambridge Institute for Better Vision. Since my first year in high school, I’ve had to wear glasses. According to some research, there may have been a triggering event that caused this. You don’t know anyone who was born with glasses do you? Then it seems, something more than physical eye change may cause nearsightedness. Can be who we are, keep our energy and possibly improve our vision? I’m not sure but here are some things I’m trying.
Better plan your days. As introverts, with our focus and energy inward, we may be activating nearsightedness. If our sight is integral to our introspection, then we want to honor that part of us. Maybe start with that quiet time or meditation or those planning and thinking tasks. Then purposefully plan and schedule some social interaction sometime during the day, even if our work doesn’t require it.
On introspection, raise your vibrations. One study suggests that with increased nearsightedness is lower self-esteem. It’s interesting that some introverts report either low self-confidence or self-image and those are related to self-esteem. We can often hear our self-talk, focusing inward, to be stuck more on the negative side. When finding this, immediately put your thoughts in a more positive actually seeing more outside of yourself. For instance, if you find yourself thinking (hearing the self-talk) “I could have done that better,” change the direction of your thoughts to “I did that as well as I could.” As you do this, I wonder if it would help to shift your eyes to see outside of you?
Plan specifically to let your eyes do more seeing. Keep those glasses off or their lenses out first thing in the morning. Purposefully see all around you as you look. Let yourself either feel the enjoyment with what you see, or feel frustrated with the clutter, but see with the feelings.
Exercise the eyes. My daily routine once again includes see clearly todaynow. When I started two years ago, just after a few months there was progress. As with exercise, sigh, those plans went by the wayside. This report on introspection was just the jolt needed. So that’s a positive thing for an introvert right? To go inward to be able to move forward with conviction?
What if our self-esteem is related to our eyesight and that is all tied to our vision? Just the kind of thing to intrigue this introvert. What do you think?
